New (25 Nov.): The successful NZES "Feathers to Fur" conference was last week. Did you miss some of the talks because you were in another session, or did you miss the conference? No worries. New (28 Nov.): Audio podcasts of the "Feathers to Fur" one-day symposium are available as the first New Zealand Ecological Science podcasts.
The 2007 conference of the New Zealand Ecological Society happened 18–23 November, in Christchurch. The venue was the Central lecture block at the Ilam campus of the University of Canterbury.
The conference featured a major symposium titled "Feathers to Fur: the ecological transformation of Aotearoa". This is an update of 21 years of progress on the topics that make New Zealand unique, following on from the 1986 conference "Moas, Mammals and Climate" which was published in a special issue of New Zealand Journal of Ecology in 1989.
The conference logo symbolises this transformation with a Maori cave drawing of a "bird-man" from Frenchmans Gully (used by permission of Te Runanga o Waihao and Arowhenua and the Ngai Tahu Rock Art Trust). Click here for more details. This design also features on the conference t-shirt.
There was also four other symposia and the usual interesting range of contributed talks and posters.
