Tuitime for kids

  Tiaki tui

Introducing TuiTime!

On 16 May 2002, the New Zealand Ecological Society launched its interactive children's electronic resource, funded in part by the New Zealand Royal Society. The project, called "TuiTime," follows Tiaki tui's learning adventures with New Zealand's biodiversity. The site contains many fun activities for children, educational resources for school teachers, and an amazing interactive game where children get to be a tui. Fly on over to www.tuitime.org.nz to visit Tiaki tui and her friends!

TuiTime has been upgraded and the new version went live on 11 August 2003. The site has been completely overhauled and there are many more activities with different degrees of difficulty. There's more information too and the game "Tiaki's life" now reflects the changes that have happened in New Zealand forest systems during the last part of the Holocene. Teachers will find the site more comprehensive and helpful and students will find TuiTime more interesting and challenging. This upgrade was made possible by funding from the Ministry for the Environment's Sustainable Management Fund.

TuiTime was developed as an educational resource. You can help us to promote the site by telling school teachers and children about it. The site has been designed for Levels 1-4 of the school curriculum and will be useful for primary and early secondary school.

If anyone is interested in joining the NZES education subcommittee and assisting with TuiTime, please contact either Carol West (cwest@doc.govt.nz) or Jacqueline Beggs (University of Auckland).
